How/where did you meet?
We actually met in middle school. We both were dating other people all through high school so neither of us really considered other people for a long time. We went off to different colleges but I would come home in the summers to work at a local pizza restaurant. Kyle worked at a shop near by and came into the pizza restaurant and I remember thinking…woah… I forgot about him! We started to date towards the end of college and joke now, that if we had dated all the way through college we would have gone broke due to the distance between our schools! We dated around 3.5 years and he proposed on December 18th, 2015.
Where/what was your first date?
Our first date was actually to the pizza restaurant that I worked at. I was extremely nervous so I actually made my little sister Hannah come with us. Also, one of my best friends was working at the restaurant so I thought I could use her help if things started to fall apart. For the first several months of our relationship, Hannah came everywhere with us. We all had so much fun together and now looking back that time was such a gift. We do dates just the two of us now but it is still fun to bring my sister along every once in a while
Tell me the engagement story!
So Kyle and I were going on a Christmas cruise with my stepmom and her family. I knew the proposal was coming fairly soon so of course I thought maybe he would ask on the cruise or new years. He totally surprised me when he asked the week before the cruise. I was not expecting it then at all! We were at my moms house and he asked if I wanted to go to dinner with his parents. We headed out to the front porch and I sprinted to the car because it was freezing. He had planned on asking me right on the front porch so he started to yell come back and put your coat on! Reluctantly, I slowly walked back to put my coat on… not knowing what he was planning. After putting my coat on, he pulled out a letter and started reading it out loud. It was the sweetest letter that he had written to my Dad who passed away a few years ago. Unfortunately, Kyle and I started dating about 6 months after my Dad passed away so he never got to meet him. The letter was beautiful and shared about how he could tell he had been an amazing father to me. Kyle was in tears reading it so I actually could not understand every piece of it but I got the idea. I was so in shock that I was just smiling at this point and then he kneeled down to ask me. I immediately said yes and ran inside to tell mom. About 15 minutes later I came out of shock and cried happy tears. I asked him if he ever considered asking on the cruise and he said no. He wanted me to be able to be close to all my family to tell them in person. Since we were going out of town for Christmas we had planned family Christmas with everyone the weekend before the cruise. Kyle kept this in mind and asked me right before we saw everyone that weekend. It was perfect!
