What a wonderful, emotional day. There aren’t words to describe it all so I can only hope the pictures did it justice! I am so amazed how I continue to learn so much from each couple I shoot and their families…and getting to see love on so many levels. Goodness was this day full of it! Here is a little of their story in Cate’s words…. 😉
Our story began right before the summer of 2009 when Drew and I saw each other at our favorite neighborhood restaurant. We both knew of each other from going to Wesleyan, our very small private high school. However, we were two grades apart, and we had never spent time with each other before. Drew took seeing me that day as the perfect opportunity to send me a text and spark our friendship. Soon after, we had our first date to Carvel where we ate ice cream and talked for hours. We started seriously dating that summer although we both knew what was looming in the fall. Drew would be leaving to start his freshman year at the University of Alabama. We were unsure what our future held, but we made a commitment to do anything to make our relationship work.
Drew headed off to Tuscaloosa that August, and so began our 5 year long distance relationship full of many Skype dates, weekend visits, and thousands of miles added to our cars. I started at The University of Georgia in the fall of 2011 and our 3 and a half hour drive turned into a 4 and a half hour drive. Drew graduated in 2013 and started his career in Atlanta working for Hospital Corporation of America. With Drew in Atlanta and myself in Athens, we were the closest to each other that we had been since 2009. Drew drove up to Athens on the weekends and I made many trips home to spend time with him. It was difficult being way from each other, but it made the times we spent together that much more special. We found the old saying “absence makes the heart grow fonder” incredibly accurate. We fell more and more in love with each other every minute that we were apart.
2014 marked the year when we would finally be living in the same city. I had moved back to Atlanta to start my nursing program at Emory University. To say we were excited to both be in the same place is an understatement. I finally got to see my best friend whenever I wanted. No more 275 mile drive or Skype dates freezing every 2 minutes! Although absence did make our hearts grow fonder, togetherness assured us that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.
