There is something about winter that is so alluring and wonderful! I love it. The simplicity. The stillness. As if it invites the soul to be truly present; to rest. You guys may have read about the beginning of my journey of learning film in my Montaluce Engagement Post and I just have to say…it has been incredible! I already feel like it has grown me as an artist and at the risk of sounding cheesy I have to say it’s even surprised me by how it’s changed the way that I see the world. I think it has to do with slowing down and coming into a new level of awareness of what’s around me and what I’m capturing. And maybe that’s partly why film photographs seem to carry so much emotion… it’s as if the images are alive! Even the most simple things are made incredible and in that, shooting film has actually given life to the phrase “less is more” for me which is pretty amazing since I’ve tended to be a “more is more” girl ; ) (turns out you were right Gracie ; ) I feel so inspired and excited for what’s ahead…and my gosh – when the film scans get delivered it’s like Christmas all over again!
This was one of my first film shoots and was not only a wonderful chance to capture the simplicity of the colors and textures of a gorgeous bride amidst a wintery backdrop on film, but more importantly, to give me a chance to learn film from one of my sweet and uber talented friends Gracie Dinwiddie who has been such an encouragement and champion of my learning this craft! We had such a great day she taught me so much, and Jaimi was such a trooper in the cold temperatures! She couldn’t have been more beautiful! Thank you for all that you have taught me Gracie, its such great fun being on this journey with you!
